Spring — sprung!

3-16 —Rainbow, Bellingham

Spring is here —

I find myself struggling to write this post, as I am uncertain where to even start.

I had other plans and hopes for this season from what the reality actually is, and still processing it all to be honest.

The long story short on dahlia tubers is — winter storage in the new space was very unsuccessful.

Bins of moldy tubers.

The unfamiliar building we used was much less insulated than we thought so unfortunately everything froze.

All our bins full of beautiful tubers are now moldy, completely beyond saving.

A few tears have been shed to say the least..

Thankfully though, we haven’t lost everything.

Moldy Dahlias.

I am grateful that my dad saved some tubers that didn’t freeze, and he has generously offered his tubers to help us rebuild from.

IYKYK how this business started — so while we may be lost a large amount of the variety we once had, I am focusing on the positives in that we still have some to plant and I saved seeds — so we are going to plant our first patch of seedlings to see what we get from that.

In addition, another significant change this season is that my parents are simplifying and downsizing their garden space.

For the dahlias that means; the large garden where they have been grown in Bellingham will be grassed over, and the experimental garden will become the main garden.

New garden coming soon…

I am currently uncertain and don’t know when, where, or if the Duralia Dahlia Farm table will be up this season yet or not.

Bouquets will still be available to order online.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to follow and support our small farm & business!

Your encouragement and love are very much appreciated, keep checking back for updates.

See you soon, happy gardening —
